David “Kawika” Mattos is a dedicated husband, father of five and grandfather of eight.  He also fostered over 20 at-risk teen boys to give them a chance to experience something new.  He believes that ‘ohana should be the piko or center and focus of our lives. Overcoming his own childhood trauma and high ACEs score, he has more than 20 years of working with children and adults in the non-profit sector and is passionate about helping people change and grow. He is the Program Supervisor of Kāne Connections under Maui Family Support Services, Inc. and also works part-time at the Aloha House Residential Treatment Center where he teaches a weekly life class and the Hawaiian culture. His skills, fathering and relationship experiences and down-to-earth way of teaching helps men and parents to gain insight to move forward.
